In their entire careers, racers rarely enjoy a weekend like the one Ryan Piplic just had, clinching championships in two major series over the course of just a few days. Piplic won the UTV Pro Turbo classes for 2021 in both Best in the Desert and the Legacy Racing Association series.
At the final Best in the Desert race of the season, the Cal City Desert Challenge, Piplic sealed his lock on the title by taking third place for the race, with a third place on Day 1 and first place on Day 2. He made other trips to the Best in the Desert podium during the season as well, taking a victory in the UTV Legends Championship and second place in the Silver State 300. Throughout the year, Piplic trusted CST’s Apache tires to deliver championship-winning performance. “The CST Apache is the best tire out there to give you everything you need to make it to the finish with zero issues,” he said after the Silver State 300.
Piplic earned 586 points in the Legacy series, eight more than the next rider. Both Legacy and Best in the Desert’s final races were scheduled for the same weekend, so racer Larry Heidler ran the Legacy race in Piplic’s place, clinching his title.
“We’re so proud of Ryan, and we’re thrilled that he chose our tires to race to achieve these amazing results, said Rick Emmert, sales manager for CST’s Specialty Tire Division.

Ryan Piplic earned second place in Best in the Desert’s brutal Jimco Racing Silver State 300, held April 29 – May 2 near Alamo, Nevada.
Piplic finished the UTV Turbo race in 5:13:43.028, riding CST Apache tires. Designed for the rigors of desert racing, the Apache provides solid grip and cornering through berms and handles high speeds and desert conditions while resisting punctures.
“The BITD Silver State 300 in my opinion is the most fun race of the year, and every racer looks forward to this event,” said Piplic. “The course has everything to offer when it comes to an all-around course from high-speed flats to tight mountain trails to rocky washes and silty trails. The CST Apache is the best tire out there to give you everything you need to make it to the finish with zero issues. This year’s BITD SS300 I had zero issues from start to finish. I landed on the podium with the same 4 Apache tires I started on.”
No stranger to racing podiums, Piplic is a three-time WORCS champion and won the UTV World Championship in 2020. CST wishes him the best in his upcoming races.

Ryan Piplic rode CST’s Apache tires to third place at Best in the Desert’s King Shocks Laughlin Desert Classic. Piplic raced the Pro Turbo class at the nighttime race, held February 20 in Laughlin, Nevada.
Piplic, who finished the grueling course in 2:29:16.677, was pleased with the Apache’s performance. “I made the switch to CST this year, and we found the new Apache tire was going to be the ultimate tire for Best in the Desert racing,” he said. “The amount of traction and resistance to punctures is next level. We started and finished on the same four 30-inch Apaches, and not one problem. After the race they still look like new and ready to go for the next race. Game changer!” Specifically designed to tackle the challenges of desert riding, the Apache features steel-belted 8-ply rated radial construction and excellent puncture-resistance, while delivering solid grip and steady cornering through berms.
CST’s Cory Sappington also did well, finishing 11th. Like Piplic, Sappington chose Apaches for the challenges of a desert night race.
Best in the Desert’s next race, the US Desert Scrambles Championship, is scheduled for March 20-22 in Laughlin, Nevada.
