Baron took an early lead and held it throughout the race, finishing in 01:14:34.965. “I just hung it out a little more on the first lap, and I got a gap. I knew it was going to be tough to see because I saw a little dust coming up, so I knew I had to get up front early. I ate dirt at the last couple of races, and I didn’t want that to happen here. I got out front and did what I could. Then Mike Sloan had a miracle lap, and he reeled right in on me before he had to pit. I’m really happy with today’s results,” he told worcsracing.com. The series’ defending seven-time champion, Baron is undefeated so far this season in WORCS’ Pro ATV class.
In yet another trip to the top of the podium during the weekend, he rode CST to victory in the SxS Pro Stock race, winning in 38:44.623. With 63 points so far this season, Baron is just one point away from an overall lead in the SxS Pro Stock.
CST congratulates Beau Baron on his latest victories.
Big 6 Rd 2 | Taft, CA (02/08/2017) – CST’s Beau Baron and Mitch Anderson dominated the second round of the 2017 Big 6 Grand Prix held at Honolulu Hills Raceway in Taft, CA. The Pro 2 defending champion, Baron, claimed his first win of the year followed by the 2017 points leader, Anderson.
Baron’s win in 250 Pro was just one of three first place finishes he scored over the weekend. Baron also won the Vet and the ATV class. “In Vet I got a second place start, ran down the leader and won. I felt really good, and made just a few suspension adjustments before the 250 Pro race,” stated Baron.
“I came out eighth place and worked my way towards the front of the pack. Just past the halfway point, I passed Mitch for the lead on the motocross part of the track. Then I pulled a gap and just rode my own race to the finish,” explained Baron of his excellent performance in the Pro 2 class.
This was an exceptionally good weekend for Baron after a rough start to the season during the first round in Adelanto. “I am excited especially after coming off a seventh place finish last round. It boosted my confidence for sure.”
Mitch Anderson also had an impressive weekend, taking second in the Pro 2 class and first in the Expert class. “The track conditions were pretty nice. It has been cold with high chances of rain all year, so to have a somewhat warm and dry race was a nice change of pace. The track at Taft is always technical and difficult so you have to stay on your toes.” said Anderson.
Anderson put in a very strong ride in the Pro 2 class, taking second off the start and quickly moving into the lead, which he held for a majority of the race. “I had a hard time setting the pace in the lead. It was foreign territory for me this year, but now I got that out of the way and I should be good for the rest of the year,” explained Anderson.
With great finishes in the first two races of the season, Anderson now has the points lead heading into the third round. “It is always an advantage mentally knowing you are the one everyone is looking at, but it is a long series. I was in the lead early last year so I know what I have to do.” It may be early in the season, but signs point to Anderson being a top contender in this championship hunt.
Baron and Anderson will be competing next at the third round of the WORCS series February 17-19 at the same location, Honolulu Hills in Taft, CA. Watch for these CST Tires teammates to top the podium once again.
